German von Bohn
August German von Bohn (born February 25, 1812 in Heilbronn , † January 23, 1899 in Stuttgart ) was a German history painter .
Life
Bohn was a son of the businessman Louis Bohn in Stuttgart and his wife Lisette, née. Rheinwald. He first studied law at the University of Tübingen . He became a member of the Comment fraternity in 1830 and was one of the founders of the Corps Suevia in 1831 . In 1833 he switched to painting. In Paris in 1835 he became a student of Henri Lehmann and Ary Scheffer . After a period in Rome from 1840 to 1843, he returned to Paris, where he was made Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1853 . In 1867 he settled in Stuttgart , where he was court painter .
Works by Bohns can be found in museums in Germany, Italy and France. In France he also created murals for churches.
