Germany Township is a township in Adams County , Pennsylvania , United States . The population according to the 2010 Census was 2,700. The majority of the earlier settlers came from Germany and Great Britain.

Germany Township is located south in Adams County. It is right on the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland . It is crossed by Pennsylvania Route 97 , which leads north to Gettysburg and south as Maryland Route 97 to Westminster .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the Germany Township has an area of ​​10.92 square miles (28.27 km²). Of this, 10.90 square miles (28.23 km²) is land and 0.015 square miles (0.04 km²) is water.

Germany Township is bordered to the west by Littelstown and Mount Joy Township , to the north by Mount Pleasant Township , to the east by Union Township and to the south by the State of Maryland .

history

The parish was founded in 1733 as part of York County, Pennsylvania. Adams County was formed on January 22, 1800 and Germany Township was added to the new county. A 311 hectare part of the original Germany Township formed the oldest parish in Adams County in 1760, today the city of Littelstown .

According to the 1800 census, 1,031 people lived in the Germany township. Jacob Fondersmith produced the Kentucky Rifles here between 1819 and 1821. From 1824 the production of wine, liqueurs and other goods gained in importance. Two iron ore mines in the township later started operations. The Littlestown Branch Railroad began operations on July 1, 1858, connecting the township with the surrounding areas.
