Germershausen was a noble family from Hesse .

origin

The noble family came from the town of the same name near Oberweimar . In the year 1260, a representative of this sex can be documented for the first time. According to other information, it was resident in Eichsfeld , where there is also a place of the same name in today's district of Göttingen (see Germershausen ).

In 1624 this noble family died out in the male line.

Personalities

Volkmar von Germershausen was a captain in Rüdersdorf near Berlin and lord of Strausberg in 1572 .

One of the best-known personalities is Lorenz von Germershausen, who was imprisoned in 1583/84 for over six months at Wernigerode Castle in the Harz Mountains by the ruling Count of Stolberg-Wernigerode for breaking the truce . His two brothers Ernst and Engelhardt von Germershausen campaigned in vain for his release.

In 1883 Volkmar von Germershausen sold one sixteenth of the small monastery Gröningen 's tithe to the Halberstadt cathedral chapter .
