Germina Speeder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Germina Speeder is the only skateboard produced in the German Democratic Republic .

It was produced as a product of the VEB chocolate processing machines from Wernigerode , which belonged to the combine food and luxury goods engineering ( Nagema ). Production began at the end of 1986. A Germina Speeder cost 135 marks .

The following notices were printed on the underside of the deck:

  • Driving on public traffic areas is prohibited
  • Practice only on level ground
  • Avoid bumps and gravel
  • Protect your head, hands, elbows and knees
  • Check that the wheels and nuts are tight
  • Jump forward only
  • Practice falling and rolling
  • Clean / check ball bearings

The Germina Speeder could not only be purchased, but also borrowed from the sports and recreation center in Berlin .

criticism

The skateboard, which was disparagingly referred to as the “chocolate board”, was delivered without anti-slip grip tape. Instead, the often brittle plywood of the deck was additionally varnished, which increased the risk of slipping for the athlete. The axles and rollers were too narrow, making it almost unsuitable for skateboarding. This opinion was shared by the GDR home improvement magazine practic , which published a correspondingly critical article in 1987.
