Gerolamo Querini

Gerolamo Querini (* 1468 in Venice , † August 19, 1554 in Vicenza ) was Patriarch of Venice from 1524 to 1554 .

biography

He was born in Venice to Girolamo and Maria Zorzi.

In 1490 he received the Dominican Habit from the hands of his predecessor, Patriarch Thomas Donatus, and was ordained a priest the following year.

He received his episcopal ordination as Bishop of San Pietro di Castello on January 8, 1524.

Querini was elected patriarch by the Venetian Senate on October 21, 1524 and Pope Clement VII was confirmed. On January 1, 1525, he solemnly took office in the Basilica of San Pietro di Castello .

From 1533 lived outside Venice : first in Bologna , where he consecrated the altar of the Basilica of San Domenico in 1534, then near Vicenza , where he died on August 19, 1554.
