Gerold Walzel (born June 24, 1901 in Villach ; † January 30, 1988 in Althofen , Carinthia ) was an Austrian poet and composer.

Life

Walzel was born as the son of an Austro-Hungarian official in Villach. He attended secondary school and moved with his family to Linz , where he graduated from high school in 1919 . After various stations (engineering studies, trainee in Augsburg), he enrolled at the University of Graz natural sciences (physics and chemistry). After the Second World War he was taken prisoner and was released 1947th In 1950 he got a position in Vienna with the Alpine-Montangesellschaft, where he stayed until his retirement in 1966. From 1968 he lived in Klagenfurt. He is buried in Klagenfurt in the St. Martin cemetery on Luegerstrasse.

Student associations

Walzel was a member of several well-fortified student associations , which four circles remind of his grave slab. Among other things, he was a member of the Association of Carinthian Students Tauriska, today's Academic Choir of Klagenfurt, and of the Academic Choir of Gothia of Graz.
