Gerold Wucherpfennig (born September 23, 1957 in Seulingen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From May 2008 to November 2009 he was Thuringian Minister for Building, Regional Development and Media and at the same time Chairman of the Conference of Transport Ministers of the Federal States.

Career

From 1978 to 1985 Wucherpfennig studied architecture , urban and landscape planning at the University of Kassel . He then worked in the Office for Landscape Management, Nature Conservation and Agriculture in the district of Göttingen , since 1987 as deputy head of the office. In 1989 he became head of the office for regional planning and urban development, then from 1991 to 1993 he was head of the building and environmental department in the Worbis district .

From 1993 to 1999 Wucherpfennig took on various areas of responsibility in the Thuringian Ministry of Culture. Until 1998 he was head of the department for construction and real estate affairs, regional planning and regional planning, from 1996 to 1998 deputy head of the central department and from 1998 to 1999 head of the ministerial office.

He is a volunteer lecturer at the University of Applied Science and Art in Göttingen and since 2012 at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Forestry at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt.

Wucherpfennig is married, has three children and is a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Wucherpfennig has been a member of the CDU since 1997. From 1999 to 2003 he was appointed managing director of the CDU parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament . On June 10, 2003, under the new Thuringian Prime Minister Dieter Althaus, he became State Secretary and Head of the Thuringian State Chancellery . Since July 8, 2004, he was Thuringian Minister for Federal and European Affairs.

As part of a cabinet reshuffle, which was announced on April 23, 2008, Wucherpfennig changed to the Thuringian Ministry of Construction and Transport on May 8, 2008 as Andreas Trautvetter's successor , which was also renamed the "Thuringian Ministry of Construction, Regional Development and Media".

In the state elections in 2009 , Wucherpfennig was elected to the Thuringian state parliament by direct mandate from the Kyffhäuserkreis I constituency; in 2014 he won the direct mandate in the Eichsfeld I constituency . After the resignation of Prime Minister Althaus and the formation of the coalition with the SPD , he was not considered again as a minister in the Lieberknecht cabinet . In February 2011 Wucherpfennig was elected managing director of Eichsfelder Wirtschaftsbetriebe (EEW) based in Duderstadt ; he was supposed to take over this post in March 2012, thereby announcing his retirement from politics. A week later, however, he announced his resignation from the post; inter alia in connection with an anonymous complaint of a tax offense that was brought against him before the state election in 2009.

In 2009, Wucherpfennig was a member of the Thuringian state parliament and chaired the committee for economics and science and, from 2012, he was media policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. He has been a member of the board of trustees of the Thuringia Foundation for Technology, Innovation and Research (STIFT) since 2009. As a member of the state parliament, Wucherpfennig was a member of the administrative board of ThüringenForst from 2012 to 2014 and is a member of the assembly of the Thuringian State Media Authority. From 2012 he was a member of the Committee for Europe, Culture and Media, from 2015 a member of the advisory board of the State Development Company and the Society for Employment and Economic Development and from 2016 a member of the State Sports Conference. He is also chairman of the committee for economy and science in the Thuringian state parliament. He did not run for the 2019 state elections and left the Thuringian state parliament.

Voluntary work

Wucherpfennig has been chairman of the Heimat- und Verkehrsverband Eichsfeld (HVE) since 2005, of the Heimatverein Goldene Mark since 2013 and since 2014 on the board of the Eichsfeldische Heimatkunde association. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, he was honored with the Eichsfeld plaque as the highest award of the HVE Eichsfeld Touristik for personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the Eichsfeld.
