The house at Gerostraße 3 is a listed building in the town of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt, part of the town of Gernrode .

location

The building is located in Gernröder's old town on the south side of Gerostraße and is listed as Küsterhof in the local monument register. St. Stephen's Church is to the west of the house .

Architecture and history

The two-storey half - timbered house is part of a spacious, originally four-sided homestead. It served as a Küsterhof to the neighboring St. Stephen's Church. It was created in 1571. Another statement mentions the year 1572. The half-timbered facade is decorated with profiled lugs and valleys and a console frieze on the threshold . In addition, there are St. Andrew's crosses in the compartments of the parapet . At the gable over leaf struts find.

The property has an enclosure made of quarry stones , which partly also serves as the outer wall of the ground floor. It is assumed that this enclosure was built in an older period. On the east side, around 1700, an extension was added, also in half-timbered construction, which served as the upper parish and residence of the senior pastor . The half-timbered figure of the half man exists in the corner compartments of the framework . In addition, the threshold is profiled. A door designed in the classicism style dates from the first quarter of the 19th century .

In 1863 the garden wall of the property was set back because of the expansion of a path to the street.

The last pastor to live on the farm was the pastor P. Hummel in 1910 . In 1951/1952 the half-timbered structure was exposed and the house was renovated. At the same time, a Romanesque crypt from the 10th or 11th century, which was then used as a potato cellar, was uncovered and restored, which was part of the village church used by the community until 1470. The crypt consists of a cross vault resting on four pillars and rests on a central column and is similar to the eastern crypt of the collegiate church of St. Cyriakus .

From 1951 the property served as a rest home for the Evangelical Church of Anhalt until it was closed in 1998. On December 18, 2008, a contract was signed between the city of Gernrode and the Bernburg- based Chancellor von Pfau'sche Foundation , in which the basis for the construction of a senior citizens' residence was agreed, which also affected the Küsterhof area. Extensive demolition work began in February 2011, including buildings in the courtyard. The listed Küsterei was preserved. Until December 31, 2011, the address of the house was Bergstrasse 3 . Currently (as of 2014) the building is empty and needs renovation. At the beginning of 2019, new work began to secure the building from collapse. The façade was freed from the now worn foil and the remaining parts of the façade within the framework were removed. Subsequently, the framework should be checked for stability and partly replaced. Subsequently, the facade will also be provisionally restored. Further steps of the project are not yet known (as of 01/2019).
