Gert Wilhelm Mathias Fricker (born June 5, 1956 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German biochemist and professor at Heidelberg University . Gert Fricker is Director at the Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University, and has been the Dean of Studies for Pharmacy since 2002. At the IPMB, he heads the Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy Department. Within the Working Group for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering (APV) he belongs to the training and science specialist group. Together with Michael Wink , he is the managing director of the Steinbeis Transfer Center for Biopharmacy and Analytics in Heidelberg. Fricker is also a co-founder of HeiDelTec GmbH (Heidelberg Delivery Technologies).

Career

From 1975 to 1981 Gert Fricker studied chemistry and medicine at the University of Freiburg . In 1986 he was awarded a doctorate in chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Department of Biochemistry. rer. nat. PhD . He then worked for two years as a postdoc at the University Hospital Zurich . In 1988 G. Fricker switched to industry and went to Sandoz in Basel. There he worked in the Drug Delivery Systems department . During his time in Basel he was in Freiburg in the field of experimental medicine habilitation . In 1995 Gert Fricker accepted a call from Heidelberg University and became a professor at the Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy. In 2002 he became director at the Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology at Heidelberg University. In 2014 he was a visiting professor at the Eugene-Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State University , Detroit , Michigan, USA. Furthermore, Fricker has been working as a visiting principal investigator at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory , Salsbury Cove, Maine , USA, since 1985 .

Work areas

Gert Fricker and his working group deal with the topics of drug delivery (especially through the blood-brain barrier or choroid plexus ), drug targeting , membrane transport , improving the absorption of active ingredients and bioavailability , as well as the function and influence of the ABC transporters . Of technological relevance are u. a. Work in the field of micro and nanoparticles , liposomes and microemulsions. The group around Gabriele Reich belongs to the working group , which focuses on soft gelatine capsules , Process Analytical Technology (PAT), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and depot pharmaceutical forms based on innovative biopolymers . G. Fricker organizes the annual barrier and transporter meeting in Bad Herrenalb.
