Gert Louis Lamartine

Gert Louis Lamartine (born July 20, 1898 in Uiffingen , † January 9, 1966 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter , sculptor and interior designer .

Life

Gert Louis Lamartine, born under the name Gerhard Ludwig Gustav Lamerdin , was the son of Gustav Lamerdin and Bertha geb. Müller, and was related to Alphonse de Lamartine . He studied painting at the University of Heidelberg and at the Karlsruhe Art Academy .

In 1923 he emigrated to Canada and set up an interior decoration studio in Île Sainte-Hélène in Montreal , from where he worked for more than forty years. Under his direction, his company decorated numerous houses in the Montreal district as well as the famous hotels Château Frontenac in Quebec City , Château Laurier in Ottawa , Château Lake Louise in Banff (Alberta) and the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal.

His paintings are impressionistic and abstract. He painted portraits, figure studies, capes and still lifes and chose his subjects from many countries he has traveled to ( Japan , China , the Caribbean , Portugal , Spain and others). His work has been exhibited in various locations, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 1959 and the Toit de Chaume gallery in Piedmont, Québec outside Montreal in 1964 . He also made mosaics and sculptures.
