Whip John

Gerte John (born January 20, 1972 ) is a former German rower who was second in the 1995 world championship and third in the four-man championship in 1996 without a helmsman .

Career

Gerte John rowed for the rowing club on Wannsee in Berlin. In 1990 she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships with the four-man without a helmsman .

From 1991 to 1997 Gerte John always rowed to one of the top three places at the German Championships in eighth position, and in 1994 she won the title. In 1993 she rowed at the World Championships in two without a helmsman and reached fifth place. Two years later she started at the 1995 World Championships together with Doreen Martin , Dana Pyritz and Anke Weiler in a foursome and won the silver medal, one and a half seconds behind the boat from the United States.

In 1996 Gerte John became German champion in the foursome together with Lenka Wech , Doreen Martin and Claudia Barth . At the 1996 World Championships , the four rowers took third place behind the boats from the United States and Romania. At the German Championships in 1997, Gerte John won in a pair without a helmsman together with Kathleen Naser . In the Rowing World Cup , the two achieved second place in the first regatta, but were no longer able to show their form afterwards and took ninth place at the 1997 rowing world championships .
