Gertrud Platz

Gertrud Platz (born August 8, 1942 , † June 24, 2019 , born Gertrud Horster , at times also under the name of Gertrud Platz-Horster ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Life

Gertrud Platz was born in 1969 with a thesis on statues on gems. Doctorate on the relationship between gem pictures and Greek sculpture with Walter-Herwig Schuchhardt at the University of Freiburg . In 1973 she became a trainee at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and then assistant to the general director. In 1981 she moved to the Berlin Collection of Antiquities . Since 1999, Platz has been the deputy director of the Antikensammlung under Wolf-Dieter Heilmeyer , and since 2003 under Andreas Scholl . She retired on September 1, 2007, but continues to work scientifically and continues to oversee projects. Martin Maischberger was her successor as deputy director .

Since completing her doctorate, Platz has been one of the experts in the field of glyptic research. At the Berlin Antikensammlung, which has around 14,000 copies, Platz was able to pursue its interests in this type of find. Her specialties were also antique jewelry and antique glass. In all of these areas, Platz presented important work. She participated in numerous special exhibitions, such as 2007 “Medea's Gold” and “Myth and Power. Sublime images in precious stone ”. Platz was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .

Gertrud Platz died on June 24, 2019.
