Andreas Scholl (born October 28, 1959 in Münster ) is a German classical archaeologist . Since 2003 he has been director of the Berlin Collection of Antiquities .

Life

Andreas Scholl passed his Abitur in 1978 and began studying Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Medieval History at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster and the University of London in 1981 . During this time he took part in the German excavation in Olympia for six months in 1982 . He received his doctorate in 1989 in Münster with a thesis on the subject of the Attic picture field steles of the 4th century. v. Investigations into the small-format grave reliefs in late Classical Athens . He then worked for a short time as a scientific volunteer at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn and then until 1990 a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute (DAI). After returning to Germany, Scholl became a research assistant at the Archaeological Seminar of the University of Münster, and in 1991/92 in the research archive for ancient plastic at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Cologne . From 1992 Scholl was a research assistant at the Archaeological Institute of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . His habilitation took place in 1997. He then became a senior assistant at the Bonn Institute.

In 2000 Scholl moved to the Antikensammlung Berlin, where he was responsible for the sculpture collection as curator . In 2003 he became director of the museum and has since been teaching as an honorary professor at the Free University of Berlin (FU). He is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . He is ex officio on the board of the Friends of Antiquity on Museum Island Berlin .
