Gertrudes Araújo Moniz (born April 27, 1967 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor . She is a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) .

Career

Moniz studied at the Udayana University in Denpasar ( Indonesia ) from 1988 to 1994. From 1989 she was a member of the Resistência Nacional dos Estudantes de Timor-Leste RENETIL (National Resistance of Students from Timor-Leste), where she became a member of the organizational department of the Central Committee .

From 1995 to 1996 Moniz was deputy director of the Escola Pré-Secundária in Salele ( municipality of Cova Lima ). From 1996 to 1999 she took over the management of the authority for economic, social and cultural planning in Cova Lima (BAPPEDA). From 2002 to 2007 Moniz was the head of the Appeals Office of the Tax Department in the East Timorese Ministry of Planning and Finance.

Between 2009 and 2011 Moniz completed a degree at Gajayana University in Malang, Indonesia , which she completed with a master’s degree.

Political career

In 2001 Moniz was a co-founder of the PD. In 2006 she became President of the Women's Democratic Organization (Organizasaun Mulher Democratico OMD), which she still chairs today. The OMD is the PD's women's organization.

From 2007 to 2012 Moniz was a member of the National Parliament of East Timor . Here she was deputy group leader of the PD, secretary of the Commission on Eradication of Poverty, Rural and Regional Development and Gender Equality (Commission E) and Chair of the Sub-Commission on Gender Equality. In the 2012 parliamentary elections , Moniz was no longer on the PD's electoral list.
