Office building Theresienstraße 11

The office building at Theresienstraße 11 was a historic postal service building in Nuremberg . It was built before 1898 based on a design from the royal Bavarian state building authority in Nuremberg under the direction of government building officer Molitor, the facade was designed according to a sketch by building officer Förster. The house has not been preserved.

It was built as a post and telegraph office for the Sebald city side . The plots of land belonging to a group of houses in the oldest part of Nuremberg, on the corner of Theresienstraße / Tetzelgasse, were chosen as the building site. However, the houses to be demolished there were historically and architecturally valuable, so some citizens of the city demanded their preservation. Particular emphasis was placed on a tower flanking the group of houses, as well as a "chörlein" ( bay window ), which came from the heyday of the Nuremberg Renaissance . However, only the bay window could be integrated into the new building as a spoiler , the tower was demolished. The new building was deliberately intended to look like a Renaissance patrician house in Nuremberg .

The brick- built house stood on a base made of granite blocks , the facade was faced with Cadolzburg and Erlangen white sandstone . The gable with its plastic jewelry was made of Tretzendorfer sandstone, the bay window in Ködnitzer sandstone.
