In the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, the loop was a measure of length for strands of yarn made from flax and hemp . The measure was still valid beyond January 1, 1849, the day the Prussian system of measurement was introduced.

When the yarn was wound onto the counting reel , a number of so-called threads that differed from region to region were tied or tied to form a bundle (hence the name “bundle”). A certain number of bundles finally formed the finished strand of yarn. One thread was measured by one full turn of a reel. The thread length was therefore dependent on the circumference of the reel.

  • 1 cubit = 0.66694 meters
  • 1 thread = 2 cubits
  • 1 loop = 20 bundles = 1200 threads = 2400 cubits = 1600.656 meters
