The laced virgin with her corset

As Laced Virgin one is the tomb from the early 18th century, respectively. It stands in Hannover on the New Town Cemetery , showing a semi- plastic , larger than life picture of Anna Margareta Borcherding (1701-1716).

history

Anna Margareta was born in 1701 in what was then the seat of the Electorate of Hanover as the youngest daughter of the equine doctor Johann Albrecht Borcherding .

According to legend, in order to look more beautiful , the maiden from Calenberger Neustadt tied a narrow waist out of vanity and ended up dead as a result, barely 15 years old. As a warning sign for all vain and slimness-obsessed women, the image of the deceased in elegant clothes and with an extremely narrow waist was carved in stone.

The vernacular:

“Who has
the most beautiful waist in our city on the Linen ?
It is a girl, blond with hair,
she is now on the bier,
why? This will serve you as a lesson:
She laced the corset too tight! "

The Laced Virgin stands face to face across from the tomb of Tall Christoff .
