The Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sacré Cœur) is a religious order of women, which was founded in 1800 by Sophie Barat in France.

The congregation is a school order and has offices in 41 countries. The nuns work mainly in the education of girls and women. They carry the religious symbol RSCJ for Latin lat. R eligiosa S anctissimi C ordis J esu , "a nun of the Sacred Heart." The community currently has nearly 3,000 members in 41 countries. The Motherhouse of the Order with the seat of the Superior General is in Rome .

Central European Province

The first founding of the order in Austria was in Graz in 1846, in Bregenz in 1854, in Vienna in 1868 and in Pressbaum in 1892. In 2004 the religious houses of the province Austria-Hungary were merged with the religious houses of the province Germany-Sweden and now form the Central European Province (CEU) with the provincial house in Vienna.
