Gesine Märtens

Gesine Märtens (born August 3, 1971 in Magdeburg ) is a German politician and political officer ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). Since December 2019 she has been State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry of Justice and Democracy, Europe and Equality .

Life

Märtens spent her childhood and youth in Dresden. After graduating from high school, in 1990 she began studying cultural studies , philosophy and journalism at the University of Leipzig and the University of Complutense Madrid . In 2004 she graduated with a dissertation on José Ortega y Gasset to Dr. phil. From 2009 until her appointment as State Secretary in the course of the formation of the Kretschmer II cabinet , she worked as a systemic family therapist in a Leipzig anti-violence facility.

Märtens was elected to the City Council of Leipzig in 2014 for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . On December 20, 2019, she and Mathias Weilandt were appointed State Secretary by Katja Meier in the Saxon State Ministry of Justice and for Democracy, Europe and Equality .

Märtens is a member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation .
