Gesinus G. Kloeke

Gesinus G. Kloeke (born July 10, 1887 in Schagen , † November 5, 1963 in Leiden ) was a Dutch linguist .

Kloeke studied in Germany and the Netherlands. He received his doctorate both in Leipzig (1914) and in Amsterdam (1922) on the vocalism of the dialect of Finkenwerder near Hamburg. He became a German teacher in Winschoten and at the grammar school in Leiden (1919–1925). In 1925 he was appointed professor in Hamburg and in 1934 in Leiden . Kloeke resigned from office in 1942 under German occupation. He was reappointed in Leiden in September 1945 and taught until 1953.

In 1957 he received the Brothers Grimm Prize from the Philipps University of Marburg .
