Get Happy !! was an Independent - Label (1990-2001), shipping for 2 nd hand vinyl (1988-2001) and independents recorded music store in Sandweg , Frankfurt (1990-1995). Get Happy !! is the title of Elvis Costello's fourth album from 1980.
history
Get Happy !! in the summer of 1988 in Seligenstadt by Joachim Gaertner and Jochen Riegler. Until the opening of the shop in Frankfurt's Sandweg in October 1990, the name established itself in the vinyl collector scene as a mail-order company with a focus on singles in the punk and new wave segment, based in Wiesbaden .
Together with the Get Happy !! a label of the same name was founded, which initially featured local (nerds, suburbs, killrays), later international artists such as Beatnik Termites ( Cleveland , Ohio), Guided by Voices ( Dayton , Ohio), Kitchen Cynics ( Aberdeen , Scotland) or Alterra ( Slovenia ) published.
With the release of Guided By Voices, Get Happy !! also known internationally.
After the record shop closed in October 1995, the owners parted ways. Riegler moved to Koblenz and continues to operate a mail order business with second hand vinyl. Gaertner led Get Happy !! as label and shipping until the end of 2001. In March 2005 he published the reference work They Could Have Been Bigger Than EMI , a discographic preparation of independent labels in the field of alternative music that no longer exist worldwide. He is also a founding member of the psychedelic band S / T .
