The grain Bock ( Calamobius filum ) is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).
features
The grain buck is 5 to 11 millimeters long. The body is extraordinarily elongated and slender, even for a longhorn beetle. It is black with a slight lead sheen and short gray hair. The head and the cylindrical pronotum are almost as wide as the wing panels . The very thin antennae of the males are twice as long as the body, the antennae of the females one and a half times as long.
distribution
It occurs in southern Europe and in southern Central Europe, in addition in the Ukraine to the Caucasus as well as in Turkey and North Africa. Occasionally it is found in Lower Austria and sometimes in Upper Austria as well. In Germany, the heat-loving species has spread northwards in the last few decades, especially along special traffic routes such as railway and river embankments. The species is now often in the Upper Rhine Plain .
Way of life
The larva develops in grasses such as ball-grass and oats , and sometimes in cereals. The egg is placed individually below the ear in the stalk, where the larva eats in the stalk tissue until the ear breaks off. Then it eats down in the stem pulp, piercing the nodes. Pupation takes place after wintering in spring 50 to 80 millimeters above the ground in a store made of excrement and wood chips, sometimes in the ground. The imago appears from May to July, sits on the grass or flies around.
