Getzelau
Getzelau (also Getzling) was the end of the Middle Ages desolate fallen village south of Leipzig , the territory later than desert Mark Getzelau was called.
location
The Mark Getzelau desert was located between the Auenhain Vorwerk and the village of Crostewitz in the Leipzig district, which had belonged to Cröbern since 1923 . The area fell victim to the Espenhain open-cast lignite mine around 1978 . Today the area is located within the Markkleeberger See , which was created after the open-cast mine was flooded .
history
Getzelau was first mentioned in 1213 as Geroldesdorp. Manorial village was under the monastery of St. Thomas in Leipzig (1218). The Pflugk family is named as the landlord for 1477 and the Markkleeberg manor at the end of the 15th century . The village was now called Getzling (1451). But as early as 1501 there was talk of a "deserted margk called Getzelau". It is not known why the village was abandoned.
In 1978 the area was included in the Espenhain opencast mine . Because of the pivoting of the opencast mine to the east construction site in 1982, this area remained essentially without spoil tipping after the excavation , so that after the remaining hole to Markkleeberger See has been flooded, the area of the former Getzelau desert near the south bank of the lake is covered by water. In the western part of the former Getzelauer Mark, a small island protrudes from the water, which was named Getzelauer Insel. It is part of a priority area for nature and landscape on the lake and must not be entered.
