Vorwerk

The Vorwerk Auenhain in the Battle of Nations in 1813

After a desert was already mentioned before 1500 , a sheep farm Auenhain is guaranteed in 1522 . This was located almost exactly in the middle of the triangle formed by the villages of Wachau, Güldengossa and Cröbern and about 700 m west of the F 95. It belonged to the Markkleeberg manor . Later (1834) it was also called Vorwerk . The population for the 19th century is given as between 20 and 30 people.

In the fighting of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , the small settlement was badly affected, as it was right in the main field of fighting.

Until 1856 the Vorwerk Auenhain was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office in Leipzig . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Leipzig II and from 1875 to the administrative authority Leipzig . Administratively, the Vorwerk Auenhain had belonged to Cröbern since the 19th century and to Wachau from 1922. With the advancement of the Espenhain open-cast lignite mine, the Auenhain Vorwerk was devastated in 1976 and the 19 residents relocated.

Auenhain settlement

One of the war disabled houses in the Auenhain settlement

After the First World War , the construction of semi-detached houses in garden plots as private homes for war invalids along the Leipzig-Chemnitz trunk road began. This settlement, initially only referred to as a warrior settlement, soon took the name of the nearby Vorwerk and became the Auenhain settlement, especially since single-family houses of non-war invalids were also added.

With the interruption of the F 95 by open- cast lignite mining near Magdeborn , Auenhain came to a very traffic-calmed location from the mid-1970s. On the other hand, the environmental nuisance from the nearby open pit and the fear of falling victim to coal mining increased.

That changed with the shutdown of the opencast mine in the mid-1990s and the flooding of the remaining open pit to Lake Markkleeberger See. Auenhain has now become an attractive residential area, and building activity has also started again, so that today some side paths to the central street are built on. Auenhain also gains special importance through the recreational activities on its corridor associated with Lake Markkleeberger.

Freetime activities

Holiday homes in the Seepark
  • The Markkleeberg canoe park on the Auenhainer bank of the Markkleeberger See is an artificially created white water course . A competition and a training course for canoe slalom are available for competitive athletes. There are also competition events with international participation. But there are also white water kayaking and rafting for everyone. The competition course is 270 m long with a height difference of 5.20 m. The surge of water varies between 4 m³ and 19 m³ per second and is generated by pumps. A boat conveyor belt between the finish and start basins ensures non-stop travel without getting out between the individual descents. The operation on the facility can be observed from the gastronomically supervised "KANU white water terrace" with outdoor and indoor area.
The Seeperle restaurant
  • Bathing in the lake is possible on a sandy beach that is over 500 meters long . A boat rental is also operated.
  • Above the canoe park and the beach is the Seepark Auenhain holiday village with 32 holiday homes in various designs and 6 apartment houses as well as the “Seeperle” restaurant, the “Seestern” - a wellness, pool and beauty area - and the “Seepferdchen” children's house.
  • The Markkleeberg model building association has been operating a model building park at the southern end of the Auenhain site with a garden railroad with mini landscape and systems since 2003 . The track width is 184 mm and thus corresponds approximately to the scale 1: 8 of the standard gauge of the railway. The rail network is a total of 750 meters long. It is used by steam-powered trains, with the possibility of a ride for children and adults.
