Antonius Jan Glazemaker

Antonius Jan Glazemaker (born April 19, 1931 in Hilversum ; † January 20, 2018 in Amersfoort ) was the fifteenth archbishop of the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands and the last bishop of Deventer to date .

Life

Glazemaker was the son of Jan Glazemaker and Anna née Prins, he came from an Old Catholic family on both his mother's and father's side. One of his most important youth experiences as a high school student in Amsterdam was the establishment of the World Council of Churches .

On November 27, 1956, he married Gerarda Geertruida de Groot, whose sister Elizabeth had been married to Teunis Johannes Horstman , later Bishop of Haarlem , since 1953 .

Church offices

He was ordained priest on July 1, 1956 in Hilversum by the Archbishop of Utrecht, Andreas Rinkel , and then worked as a pastor in Leiden . He became Bishop of Deventer in 1979 as the thirteenth and so far last bishop to hold this seat. His episcopal ordination took place on December 8, 1979 by the Archbishop of Utrecht, Marinus Kok , in the Church of St. Engelmund in IJmuiden , where Glazemaker had been pastor since 1963.

On February 6, 1982 he was elected Archbishop of Utrecht. Under his leadership, the first women were admitted to the Old Catholic priestly ordination in 1999.

He was retired from the episcopate on February 12, 2000.
