Marinus Kok (1981)

Marinus Kok (born February 8, 1916 in Leiden ; † July 31, 1999 in Zeist ) was the fourteenth archbishop of the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands from 1970 to 1981 .

Life

He was the son of Christianus Kok and Maria Apollonia, b. van Bladren.

After attending the old Catholic seminary in Amersfoort from 1936 to 1941 and being ordained as a deacon and priest in 1941, he was prefect at the seminary from 1944 and was appointed professor of church history and patrology at this seminary in 1944 . He worked as a pastor in Arnhem , Amersfoort (1945 to 1958) and The Hague (1958 to 1968). In 1967 he became a member of the metropolitan chapters of Utrecht and in 1968 rector of the seminary in Amersfoort.

His episcopal ordination took place on November 9, 1970 by Archbishop Andreas Rinkel , whose coadjutor he had been since 1969.

He was also chairman of the Rome-Utrecht discussion commission, founder and long-time rector of the St. Willebrord brotherhood and chairman of the International Bishops' Conference of the Union of Utrecht.

He also knew how to improve the relationship with the Roman Catholic Church and maintained close contacts with Cardinal Willebrands . Together with the Bishop of Haarlem , Gerhardus Anselmus van Kleef , he donated the episcopal consecration to Stanisław Kowalski, the Bishop of the Mariavites .

With effect from December 31, 1981, he resigned as Archbishop of Utrecht. In 1994 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Warsaw Christian Theological Academy .

Marinus Kok was married to Catharina Maria Wilhelmina (Topy) Kok-Smits (1914–2009), the couple had a son.
