Maria Tipo

Maria Tipo (born December 23, 1931 in Naples ) is an Italian pianist .
Life
Her mother, Ersilia Cavallo, a student of Ferruccio Busoni , taught her to play the piano. Maria Tipo was then tutored by Alfredo Casella and Guido Agosti .
At the age of seventeen she won the international piano award in Geneva.
Her first appearances in North America in the late 1950s, where she appeared more than 300 times, earned her the nickname "Neapolitan Horowitz ". As her first record she released twelve sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti in 1955 ; the recording was featured as "the most spectacular record of the year" by Newsweek magazine.
She received the golden tuning fork for her Goldberg Variations by Bach .
Maria Tipo has also taught, including during the Festival de Gubbio and at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. She also worked at the music academies in Geneva , Bolzano and Florence .
