The antler trees ( Gymnocladus ) are a genus of plants from the legume family (Caesalpiniaceae). Only three species belong to this genus, which is very closely related to the Gleditschien . These have their natural range in North America and in East Asia .

Gymnocladus species are deciduous trees . Its very large, bipinnate leaves are striking .

The greenish-white flowers only appear after long periods of warm weather. Very long legumes are formed that hang from the branches. The species of this genus are predominantly distributed endochorically .

There are only three types of Gymnocladus :

  • Burmese antler tree ( Gymnocladus burmanicus C.E. Parkinson )
  • Chinese antler tree ( Gymnocladus chinensis Baillon )
  • Kentucky antler tree or shot fruit tree, shot tree, American coffee tree ( Gymnocladus dioicus (L.) K.Koch )
