Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation
The Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT) is a Christian - missionary institute for linguistics and Bible translations based in Tamale / Ghana , founded in 1972 . The institute emerged from activities of SIL .
education
The GILLBT runs a UNESCO program on writing, reading and arithmetic in 22 local languages. Approx. 3,000 volunteers on site have taught around 37,000 adults and young adults (as of 2007). The languages are Buli , Kasem , Sisaala , Passal , Farefare , Mampruli , Kusaal , Deg , Gonja , Birifor , Vagla , Hanga , Anufo , Tampulma , Chumburung , Nawuri , Bassar / Ntcham , Adele , Gikyode , Nkonya and Lelemi .

The GILLBT researches the various languages of Ghana , some of which are threatened with extinction , and records the number of active speakers.

The GILLBT provides Bible translations into various languages of Ghana.
