Gheorghe G. Mironescu (born January 28, 1874 in Vaslui , † October 9, 1949 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian lawyer, politician and Prime Minister of Romania.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1891, Mironescu studied literature and philosophy at the University of Bucharest . He then studied in Paris and received his doctorate in law in 1898. He then worked in Romania as a lawyer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Trade, among others. In 1906 he took over a professorship at the Law Faculty of the University of Bucharest. He kept this until his retirement in 1939.

In the meantime, Mironescu became a Romanian MP in 1911 and a senator three years later. Under Prime Minister Take Ionescu he was Minister of Education for a short time until January 17, 1922. From November 10, 1928 to June 7, 1930 he was Foreign Minister in the Iuliu Maniu government and then for a few days and then from October 10, 1930 Prime Minister of the country. The time of political instability began that same year with his national peasant government. Eight governments came to power over the next three years. This led to the weakening of parliamentary democracy in favor of the Romanian King Charles II. Subsequently, he was still active as finance minister, interior minister and state minister. On May 31, 1939, Mironescu became an honorary member of the Romanian Academy . He died in Bucharest at the age of 75.
