Giacomo Beltrami (* around 1130 in Asti ; † around 1180 ) was an Italian patrician and consul from Asti.

12th Century

The Beltrami family can already be found in the early written records of the city of Asti , which had belonged to the free Lombard municipalities of northern Italy since 1095 . For around two hundred years, the Beltrami (also called Beltramo or Bertramenghi) were among the politically leading families in the city of Asti. Giacomo Beltrami, patrician and consul of the city of Asti, is the oldest known representative of this family. It can be found in a document from 1163 among the consuls of the free city of Asti. According to the Italian historian Luigi Cibario, Asti was ruled by seven consuls who came from the local noble or merchant families. In 1190 a Berardo Beltrami was mentioned as a councilor (consigliere) of the city government of Asti.

13th Century

Another mention comes from the year 1221, in which the brothers Manfredo and Federico Beltrami are mentioned as councilors of Asti. And a document from 1261 shows that some members of the Beltrami family were among the leaders of a Ghibelline faction that was in conflict with the powerful Guelph aristocratic Solari family . In 1276 there is a Percivalle Beltrami among the town councilors. In 1279, Anselmo Beltrami, doctor and member of the city government, was finally awarded the title of nobility "Signore di Santo Stefano di Belbo". The castle of San Stefano di Belbo was owned by the Beltrami family at that time, but they sold it to the Marquis of Busca a short time later .

14th Century

The last written mention of the Beltrami family comes from the early 14th century. Then the trail of the Beltrami in Asti is lost. It is not known whether the family died out, took on a different name, or were expelled from the city in the wake of the conflict between the Ghibelline and Guelfan supporters.
