Vandy is a French commune with 207 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Vouziers , the Canton of Vouziers and the Argonne Ardennaise municipality .

geography

The municipality is located on the slopes of the Aisne Valley. In addition, a branch of the Ardennes Canal runs through the village. Vandy is located about seven kilometers northeast of the canton capital Vouziers and about 50 kilometers south of the prefecture Charleville-Mézières . Vandy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vouziers in the southwest, west (district Vrizy ) and northwest (district Terron-sur-Aisne ), Les Alleux in the north, Quatre-Champs in the east and Ballay in the southeast.

history

Discoveries on the heights of Vandy indicate the first human settlement of this region during the Neolithic Age . The current place was created in the Gallo-Roman period.

During the First World War , the village was occupied by German troops in September 1914. By the end of the war, Vandy was 90 percent destroyed.
