Sommauthe is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vaux-en-Dieulet in the southeast and south, Saint-Pierremont in the southwest, west and northwest and the municipality of Beaumont-en-Argonne in the canton of Carignan in the northeast and east.

history

During the Franco-Prussian War , King Wilhelm of Prussia and Bismarck took positions on the heights of the village in 1870 to watch the French defeat in the battle at Beaumont .
