Diana Weicker , b. Ford (born May 26, 1989 in Neils Harbor , Canada) is a Canadian wrestler . She won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 53 kg body weight at the 2018 World Cup.

Career

Diana Weicker lives in Kentville , New Scotland, works as a medical professional at St. Catherins Ontario Hospital and is a member of the Brock Wrestling Club .

Inspired by her father, she began wrestling in 2002 under her maiden name Diana Mary Helen Ford . She then attended the Chelmsford Valley District Composite School and started for the Wrestling Club (wrestling club) of this school. She later began studying at Brock University and has been working for the university's wrestling club ever since. She was trained by Cory Robinson, Marty Calder and Tonya Verbeek .

She celebrated her first international success in 2006 when she won the Commonwealth Youth Championships in Glasgow in the weight class up to 52 kg. In 2007 she was Canadian Junior Champion in the same weight class. In 2009 she was also Canadian junior champion in the weight class up to 51 kg. In the same year it was also used at the Junior World Championships in Ankara, but came there in this weight class only on the 9th place.

Due to the strong competition in Canada, Diana Ford could not qualify for a start in the international championships (Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan American Championships) until 2014. In 2013, however, she started at the Universiade in Kazan and took 9th place in the weight class up to 51 kg.

After her marriage to her fellow wrestler Ryan Weicker, she took a break in 2014 and 2015 and became the mother of two sons (twins).

In 2017 she returned to the wrestling mat stronger than ever under the name Diana Weicker . In 2017 she was the first Canadian champion for women in the weight class up to 55 kg. In August 2017 she competed in this weight class at the World Championships in Paris, but had to be content with 12th place after a win over Sandra Paruszewski, Germany and a defeat against Irina Kuratschkina, Belarus.

In 2018 she won the Commonwealth Games in Hold Coast, Australia, in the weight class up to 53 kg, ahead of the strong Indian Babita Kumari. At the 2018 World Cup in Budapest, she achieved the greatest success of her career, because she won there after victories over Estera Tamaduiana Dobre, Romania and Nina Hemmer , Germany, a defeat against Sarah Hildebrandt from the United States and a victory over Schuldis Eschimowa, Kazakhstan a bronze medal.
