Personalities

  • Karl Roos (1878–1940) campaigned for the independence of Alsace. He was accused of espionage and of these half in Champigneulle on 7 February 1940 firing squad .
  • The painter François Desportes was born in Champigneulle in 1661. He was at the court of Louis XIV and Louis XV. active and portrayed their favorite animals there. He is considered a co-founder of animal portrait painting . He died in Paris in 1743.
