François Desportes
Alexandre-François Desportes (* 24. February 1661 in Champigneulles ; † 20th April 1743 in Paris ) was a French painter of the Rococo .
Life
Desportes was a student of the animal painter Bernaert Nicasius . He married in 1692. From 1694 to 1696 he stayed in Warsaw , where he was court painter to the Polish King John III. Sobieski was and worked as a portraitist for other nobles. Back in France he worked as a master of hunting pieces and still lifes , which he assembled from vegetables , fruits and venison . In 1699 he became a member of the Paris Academy . His animal still lifes show a strong influence by Dutch painters such as Frans Snyders . He also worked on decorative paintings for castles and drafts for portraits .
