Vrizy is a village and a former French commune with 314 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Vouziers and the canton of Attigny .

With effect from June 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Terron-sur-Aisne , Vrizy and Vouziers were merged into a Commune nouvelle with the identical name Vouziers and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Vouziers.

geography

Vrizy is located around 50 kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of Reims . Neighboring towns of Vrizy are:

  • Voncq in the north,
  • Terron-sur-Aisne in the northeast,
  • Vandy in the east
  • Vouziers in the south and
  • Grivy-Loisy to the west.

The former municipality is located on the left bank of the Aisne and on the parallel branch canal of Vouziers , which branches off from the Canal des Ardennes at Rilly-sur-Aisne . In a bend in the river Aisne was an enclave that was completely enclosed by the municipality of the neighboring municipality of Vandy .

history

First mentioned in 1145, Vrizy was an important center of basket making. Around 1920 more than 500 basket weavers worked in Vrizy.

During the First World War , the Feldfliegerabteilung 10, in which the German flying ace Max Immelmann served, was stationed in Vrizy.
