Giacomo Bini OFM (born August 23, 1938 in Ostra Vetere , † May 9, 2014 in Rome ) was an Italian religious priest and from 1997 to 2003 the 118th General Minister of the Franciscan Order .

Life

Giacomo Bini occurred on 18 September 1956, the religious order of the Franciscans in. The Perpetual he passed on 7 September 1963, received on 14 March of the following year, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He studied at the Institut Catholique de Paris for two years and received his doctorate from the University of Strasbourg in 1971 .

In 1983 he was one of the first collaborators in the Franciscans' Africa Project and worked in Rwanda . At the same time he was a member of the Provincial Government of the Order as Definitor and Provincial Vicar. From 1989 he was responsible for the training of postulants in Tanzania . In 1992 he became Provincial of the East African Province of the Franciscans.

In 1997 he was elected the 118th General Minister of the Franciscan Order at the General Chapter in Assisi . After his term in office in 2003 he was charged with founding a new missionary fraternity in Palestrina , where he worked as a traveling preacher until his death.
