José Rodríguez Carballo OFM (born August 11, 1953 in Lodoselo, Galicia , Spain ) was Minister General of the Franciscan Order from 2003 to 2013 and has been an Archbishop of Curia of the Roman Catholic Church since 2013 .

Life

José Rodríguez Carballo came on July 31, 1970, the Congregation of the Franciscan at. After his first profession on August 9, 1971, he studied Biblical Theology in Jerusalem , where he also made his perpetual vows on January 1, 1976. After studying biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, he received the sacrament of priestly ordination on June 29, 1977 by Pope Paul VI. in St. Peter's Basilica . He was then a professor of biblical theology at the Seminary of Vigo and at the Theological Faculty of the University of Santiago de Compostela . At the same time he was master of novices in the monastery of San Diego de Canedo (Pontevedra), guardian of the monastery of Santiago de Compostela and provincial superior of the Franciscan province of Santiago. From 1989 to 1997 he was President of the Conferencia de Religiosos de Galicia .

From 1997 to 2003 he was General Definitor of the Franciscan Order and General Secretary for Formation and Studies, on June 5, 2003 he was elected 119th General Minister. He was confirmed in office at the General Chapter on June 4, 2009.

In 2004 he was called as a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . In 2005 he came to Cologne for the World Youth Day . He speaks Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French and English.

On April 6, 2013 Pope appointed him Francis to Titular Archbishop of Bellicastrum and secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on May 18 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Carlos Amigo Vallejo OFM, Archbishop Emeritus of Seville , and Julián Barrio Barrio , Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela . As a motto he chose Scio enim cui credidi ( 2 Tim 1,12  EU ) (Eng. "I know who I believed").
