Hermann Schalück

Hermann Friedrich Schalück OFM (born May 8, 1939 in St. Vit ) is a German religious priest . From 1991 to 1997 he was the 117th General Minister of the Franciscans and from 1998 to 2008 President of the International Catholic Missionary Organization in Aachen.

Life

Schalück was born the seventh of nine children to parents Wilhelm and Ida Schalück. At the age of 20 he joined the Franciscan Order in 1959. From 1960 he studied theology and philosophy in Münster and Paderborn . In 1963 he made his perpetual vows , and in 1965 he was ordained a priest . Hermann Schalück was at the 1970 Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich with a thesis on the poverty thought in the theology of St. Bonaventure doctorate and taught from 1970 to 1974 Systematic Theology to the Order of Applied Sciences in Munich and Münster. From 1973 to 1983 he headed the Saxon Franciscan Province as Provincial from the Holy Cross of Werl . From 1991 to 1997 Hermann was Minister General of the Franciscan Order .

In 1997 he was appointed President of the International Catholic Missionary Organization missio in Aachen by the Vatican . He held this office from 1998 to May 2008. His successor was Klaus Krämer .

From 2001 to 2004, Schalück was President of the German Catholic Mission Council (DKMR).

On January 14, 2010 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia by the then Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers .
