Giacomo Tritto (born April 2, 1733 in Altamura , † September 16, 1824 in Naples ) was an Italian composer , music teacher and a representative of the so-called Neapolitan School .

Live and act

Giacomo Tritto studied from 1752 at the Neapolitan Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini and in 1785 became music director at the Teatro San Carlo . From 1816 he worked as court conductor. Tritto was the teacher of Vincenzo Bellini , Saverio Mercadante , Pietro Raimondi , Giacomo Meyerbeer and Gaspare Spontini .

Between 1764 and 1815 he wrote 51 operas in the style of the Neapolitan School , including “Arminio” (1786), “La canterina” (1790) and “Marco Albinio” (1810). He laid down his teaching methods in writing, with his “ thoroughbass school ” from 1821 being particularly well received.
