Gianni Da Campo (born February 8, 1943 in Venice ; † May 6, 2014 there ) was an Italian author , film director and translator .

Life

After completing a degree in literary studies , Da Campo became a representative of those who do not devote their work to the currently common commercial topics, but instead take a very private view of difficult topics. His three films produced for the cinema and a short television film were shown in numerous competitions with success with the critics, but were only presented to a wider audience on a modest scale. After his debut in 1967, Pagine chiuse about an unhappy childhood, he made one of the first films on feminism in 1970 , La ragazza di passaggio . His last film was released in 1986, Il sapore di grano , which was also shown in German-speaking countries .

Da Campo often worked on translations of French books into Italian , such as the literary works of Marina Vlady . He was one of the best experts in the work of Georges Simenon , in honor of whom he founded and directed a foundation.
