Gil Noam

Gil G. Noam (* 1950 ) is an American psychologist.

Life

Gil Noam attended the Odenwald School , where he graduated from high school in 1969. He then studied psychology and education at the Free University of Berlin and worked as a consultant at the Max Planck Institute for Educational Research in the project “Socialization and Development”. Noam was co-author of several publications on developmental psychology published in Germany. Noam wrote a qualifying paper in 1983 on The borderline personality disorders in lifespan perspective: towards a clinical-developmental interpretation and received his doctorate in 1984 with the dissertation Self, morality and biography: studies in clinical-developmental psychology at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University . He was co-editor of the Harvard Educational Review for a time . Noam became Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in Boston and at McLean Hospital in Belmont , Massachusetts.

Noam worked as the director of the social psychological prevention program RALLY (Responsive Advocacy for Life and Learning in Youth) in Boston and carried out a long-term study on children from social problem areas. Noam founded the PAER (Program in Afterschool Education and Research) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1999 .

He is editor of the journal New Directions in Youth Development: Theory, Practice and Research .

Noam lives in Cambridge , Massachusetts.
