Ermenegildo De Stefano (* in Naples ) is an Italian jazz writer, journalist and music critic .

Life

De Stefano works as a music journalist , sociologist and music critic for the daily ROMA . He is also the artistic director of the Italian festival Ragtime. He has a degree in communicative sociology and has worked with RAI since the early 1980s. He also runs a program on jazz and has edited essays in Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana by RAI. He holds courses on African-American musical culture at various universities and conservatories and directs various creative writing workshops . He is considered the leading expert on ragtime in Italy and is also considered a jazz expert there.

De Stefano is the author of the only two stories of ragtime translated into Italian and published by Marsilio Editori. In the 1990s he won a National Journalism Award given by the Ministry of Public Works and was among the finalists of the Calvino Literature Prize and received the Campania Felix International Journalism Award . He is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists; he often gives courses on creative journalism. He works with the Treccani Encyclopedia on African American Words and with several international magazines such as the Canadian CODA.
