The Gilliamsen peak is approximately 650 m high mountain in the south of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It rises at the southeast end of the Staccato Peaks .
The American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth made the first aerial photographs in 1935. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain after Lieutenant Commander Donald Anthony Gilliamsen (1930-2017) of the United States Navy , pilot of the Navy squadron VXE-6 in Operation Deep Freeze in 1969 and 1970.
