Jackson Makwetta

Jackson Muvangila Makwetta (born June 15, 1943 in Njombe ) is a Tanzanian politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was minister several times.

Life

Makwetta, son of Muvangila Sungami Makwetta Makwetta, completed a teaching degree at the University of East Africa after attending school , which he completed in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Education). He was then a teacher at the Mpwapwa Secondary School between 1970 and 1971 and a lecturer at the Institute for Development Management (IDM) in Mzumbe from 1971 to 1975 . A simultaneous postgraduate study at the University of Dar es Salaam he completed in 1975 with a Master of Arts (MA).

In 1975 Makwetta was elected for the first time as a member of the National Assembly for the then Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) in the constituency of Njombe . After the union of the TANU with the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP) in 1977 he became a member of the newly formed party of the revolution CCM ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ). He was Minister of State in the office of Prime Minister Edward Moringe Sokoine from 1977 to 1980 and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in the first government of Prime Minister Cleopa David Msuya from 1982 to 1983 . In the subsequent second cabinet of Prime Minister Edward Moringe Sokoine, he took over the post of Minister for Agriculture and Food Security for the first time in 1983, which he also held in the cabinets of Prime Minister Salim Ahmed Salim (1984 to 1985) and Joseph Sinde Warioba (1985 to 1987). After cabinet reshuffles, he held the post of Minister for Defense and the National Service in the Warioba Cabinet between 1987 and 1989 and then from 1989 to 1990 as Minister of Communications and Transport. In the government of Prime Minister John Malecela , he served again as Minister for Agriculture and Food Security between 1991 and 1992.

Most recently, Mekwetta was a member of the National Assembly for the CCM from October 29, 2000 to October 30, 2010, where he represented the constituency of Njombe Kaskazini .
