Giorgi Kekelidze ( Georgian გიორგი კეკელიძე , also: Giorgi Kekelidze ; born April 10, 1984 in Osurgeti ) is a Georgian poet and essayist . Laureate of the Georgian Literature Prize Saba , founder and main editor of the internet library lib.ge. Since 2012 he has been Director General of the Georgian National Library .

Life

Kekelidze graduated from the Philological Faculty of Tbilisi State University in 2009 . From 2006 to 2008 he worked in the Prison of Rustavi as a teacher of Georgian language and literature . Since 2009 he has moderated various literary critical programs on various radio stations.

Since 2010 he has been a literary columnist for the magazine "Tabula" and producer of the television program "Rote Zone". Editor of the Georgian magazines "Fokus" and "Tbilisi OUT". He lectures on classical literature at the Free University of Tbilisi. He is a member of the board of directors of the Georgian PEN Club. Since 2012 he has moderated the literary television program "Interpretation" - a joint project of the "Free University of Georgia", lib.ge and the newly founded cultural broadcaster "achali archi" (Eng. "New Sender") - where together with the studio guests about the reinterpretation of the classical literature is discussed.

Giorgi Kekelidze has been the General Director of the National Library of Georgia since 2012 .

In 2013 Giorgi Kekelidze founded the literature prize for “children's books”.

On his initiative, the Hall of Emigrants, Hall of Independence, Hall of Mother Tongues and Hall of Digital Photo History have been opened in the National Library since 2014.

In 2016 Girogi Kekelidze started a project ("ekvilibrum"), which includes the renewal and renovation of the libraries in the Georgian villages.

In 2017, the first Georgian book museum opened in an annex building of the national library.

In 2018 he was the first Georgian writer to be invited to Storydrive Asia.

The poetic work of Kekelidses includes several collections of poetry, including "The Odes", for which he was awarded the Georgian SABA literary prize in 2009 for "the best debut of the year". In 2011 the publishing house “Siesta” launched a campaign - books on the plate. The book pages printed in the printing house are not bound as books, but are sold on plastic plates in supermarkets. The first book of the action was the poem "The Raven" by Kekelidze. In addition to his poetic work, Giorgi Kekekildse works as a translator. Among his translations are several Austrian poets, fairy tales of the world and the novel by the Russian writer Sergei Dorenko "2008".

In 2014 his book - "Gurische Tagebücher" was published. The book immediately became a bestseller. It is based in part on the true stories from the Georgian Guria area . He donated the entire fee from the sale of the "Gurishe Diaries" to the Foundation for Leukemia Diseases (his father succumbed to leukemia in 2013)

In September 2018 Giorgi Kekelidze's "Tomas Märchen" was translated into German and published by "Der Kleine Buch Verlag"

There is no social or patriotic theme in Giorgi Kekelidze's poetry. He's more interested in folklore. His own poems have been translated into English, Russian, German, Ukrainian, Italian, Chinese and Azerbaijani languages.
