Giorgi Leonidze ( Georgian გიორგი ლეონიძე; * December 27, 1899 in Patardseuli , Kakheti ; † August 9, 1966 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian writer .

Life

He was born the son of a village school teacher and clergyman. From 1913 to 1918 he attended the spiritual seminary in Tbilisi. This was followed by studies at the State University of Tbilisi . After Georgia was annexed to the Soviet Union in 1921 , Leonidze worked as a journalist and publisher. In 1931 he became director of the Georgian State Literature Museum , later director of the Rustaveli Institute for Georgian Literary History at the Academy of Sciences of Georgia.

Awards

Leonidze received the State Prize of the USSR and the Schota Rustaveli State Prize .
