Giorgos Germenis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giorgos Germenis ( Greek Γιώργος Γερμενής , * 20th century ) is a Greek musician and politician. In the parliamentary elections in 2012 he was elected to the Greek parliament as a representative of the neo-Nazi party Chrysi Avgi . He plays bass and sings under the pseudonym Kaiadas with the death / black metal band Naer Mataron .

Life

Musical career

Giorgos Germenis joined Naer Mataron in 1997 and has been playing there as bass player ever since, and has also been the band's singer since 2012.

Party career

Coming from a more left-wing parental home, Giorgos Germenis joined Chrysi Avgi in 1990 in response to demonstrations in Macedonia . Nikolaos Michaloliakos personally brought Germenis into the Chrysi Avgi party committee as a representative for the Athens constituency . Politically, Germenis combines nationalism with satanist positions. In interviews he is anti-European and calls for the return of illegal migrants. However, his place on the electoral lists is very controversial among the Greek public and even in the conservative camp, as he publicly professes Satanism. In addition, his stage name Kaiadas is the name of a ravine in which in ancient Sparta "those sick children were thrown who were not up to the 'hardship of life'".

In an interview with Euronews in April 2012, Germenis said that Greece's factories are being resurrected, their chimneys are smoking again, and of course all illegal immigrants will have to leave the country.

A video became known in which the politician as a law enforcement officer at a press conference of the party asked the journalists to stand at attention when Michaloliakos entered the room, shouting "ἐγέρθητω" (instead of "ἐγέρθητι") in grammatically unsuccessful ancient Greek .

In the Greek parliamentary elections on May 16, 2012, Germenis formally entered the parliament in third place. Since no reliable majorities and therefore no government could be formed, a new election was called for June 6, 2012 . Germenis' band Naer Mataron asserted in a statement on their website that they are an apolitical band but that they respect their member's political activities.

In September 2012 there were violent attacks on market sellers with alleged immigrant backgrounds in Rafina by members of Chrysí Avgí. Germenis tried to justify this in retrospect: “We took a stroll through the bazaar and listened to the problems of the small merchants when we noticed that some illegal immigrants were trying to sell their things without a valid license. We informed the police and then we did what is expected of us to be the Golden Dawn. ”The Greek Supreme Court called for Germenis' political immunity to be lifted .

In October 2012 Germenis took part in the protests against a theatrical performance of the play Corpus Christi , which criticizes Christianity and is by Terrence McNally . The demonstration ended with the attempted storming of the Hytirio Theater by members and MPs of the Chrysí Avgí. Germeni's immunity as a parliamentarian was also lifted by the Greek parliament in October 2012.

In April 2013, Germenis injured a 12-year-old girl while trying to attack the incumbent Mayor of Athens, Giorgos Kaminis . Germenis is also accused of trying to pull a gun. Germenis also filed charges against the mayor, his two bodyguards and the chief of police.

In September 2013, Germenis surrendered to the police after a wave of searches against Chrysi Avgi.

Legal proceedings

In January 2014, Germenis was taken into custody. He is suspected of playing a key role in a criminal organization held responsible for attacks on migrants.
