The Striker is a Greek band that belongs to the NSBM scene and is one of the best-known groups in this.

Band history

The band was founded in 1998 by Nick "Jarl von Hagall" Giohalas with the aim of spreading neo-Nazi propaganda. The original name of the band was Herrenblut . As influences the band names early NSBM bands like Capricornus, Spear of Longinus , Schwarze Sonne, Morke, Lord of Evil / WAR 88, Abs Conditus, Absurd , RAC bands like No Remorse , Skullhead, Svastika, Macht & Ehre , Landser , SS-Totenkopf, Razors Edge and the Hatecore . As the band deviates from typical Black Metal due to these influences, they are sometimes only counted as part of the NSBM because of their ideology.

The band released two demos in 1999 and 2000, and in 2001 their debut album The Blood Calls for WAR (with Giorgos “Kaiadas” Germenis as a guest musician) was released. The band became known in the NSBM scene through their openly National Socialist texts and split releases with similar bands such as Capricornus , WAR 88 and Totenburg . She also took part in various NSBM compilations such as The Night And The Fog Part II - Hammer of National Socialist Black Metal (with Legion of Doom drummer Nikos “Aithir” Konstadinou as a guest musician) for the right-wing extremist Pagan Front and a tribute album for graveland .

The band's members are all active in the Greek neo-Nazi scene and the Chrysi Avgi party, as well as members of various similar bands such as Stutthof , Ravenbanner, Wodulf, Wintergods, Nachtkaiser or Stosstrupp. The band is also a member of the NSBM association Pagan Front. Giohalas has also appeared several times as a speaker at right-wing extremist events in German-speaking countries, such as in 2005 and 2007 at the Festival of the Nations in Jena organized by the NPD . Commando Wolf runs the label Totenkopf Propaganda, on which the debut album of the French NSBM band Ad Hominem was released as a tape version.

On February 1, 2008 the band was to perform in Tampere and Turku together with Absurd and Satanic Warmaster , one of the few satanic bands supported by the band . The event was organized by the Pagan Front. In the run-up, the concert caused a stir, as an anti-racist group warned citizens not to stay near the concert venue. The concert was sold out a few days earlier and was moved to a secret location after the protest.

In Germany, all of the band's articles are sold under the code name Der Sturm . The album The Blood Calls for WAR was indexed in 2004 by the federal inspection agency for media harmful to minors .

ideology

On their homepage, the band makes it clear that their ideology is primarily important to them and the musical element of their music is secondary. Its aim is to spread pagan as well as National Socialist values and world views. She has been rejecting the world since the industrial revolution and wants a new "Aryan world order" that should emerge from the ruins of the old one. The ideology, however, refers to all peoples living in Europe and thus corresponds more to the White Power movement. Judaism is named here as a common enemy . The Nazis called singer Commando Wolf a light moment in European history and an example of courage, heroism and iron will. He also stressed that one should follow this ideal and not forget the struggle and sacrifice of these people.

The main theme of the songs is National Socialism and its glorification. The texts are only written in English, but some of the titles have (partly incorrect) German names such as B. Adolf the Great , Until death! , Sieg Heil Vaterland , Der Kakenkreutz or One People, One Empire, One Leader .

The name of the band is derived from the Nazi propaganda newspaper Der Stürmer , which was founded in 1923 by Julius Streicher . The band uses the newspaper's Fraktur lettering as its logo . Streicher describes the band itself as a model figure of National Socialism :

“[W] e took it from the infamous anti-jewish newspaper that existed in Germany, edited by Julius Streicher, an example of a True National Socialist Fighter. His life ended on the Judaic ropes of the joke known today as the "Nuremberg trial". "

The cover design of the band is accordingly directed towards this time, pictures of mass marches by the Nazis were used in the demos. The second album features a waving Nazi war flag amid the ruins of the Athens Acropolis.
